Why is it that local authorities appoint artists to integrate work into the built environment by asking them to liase with architects. But my experience is architects find these things time consuming, distracting, things to make the project run over its scheduling and over its budget. British building standards are often quoted as reasons for things being unachievable. Lets play safe with artworks added on at the end when the buildings are handed over to the client and pass all the planning and contractual issues onto the artists, when its too late to integrate artwork into the fabric of the building?
Or is it only me who has worked with unenthusiastic architects?
